Bizsplaining the UUFP

As Finance chair, I hear comments about running the UUFP more like a business, so I thought it would be an interesting exercise. It wasn’t.

What’s your ROI?

R—WHAT?

Return on Investment. What do you get for your money?

Oh! Well, let’s see:

The UUFP spends around $2,000 per year to furnish fresh, wholesome and tasty meals to around 800 men, women and children. They are prepared with love by smiling, cheerful volunteers and happily served to folks who may not have something to eat or a home that isn’t made of cardboard.

That’s outcome, not ROI.

  1. Investment:

Food—$2,000

Customers—800

Employee costs and benefits—$0 + job satisfaction

Return:

Hundreds of thank you’s from people on or over the edge.

I can’t seem to do the math.

Seems like a good return on investment.
