What’s happening in October?

RE will be busy in October with some very special events. On October 5th we will celebrate the end of our current Coming of Age program. Four of our youth have been working for a full year preparing for this service. They have spent time with their mentors, class time with teachers, workshop time with Rev. Andrew. They had a lock-in together, experienced a vision quest camp out and took a trip to Washington DC. During both services on October 5th they will share their faith statements with the fellowship. Please plan to attend one of the services to support these youth in this very meaningful service.

On October 12th, children in the Spirit of Adventure class will help make cookies for this year’s Crop Walk. Carey Hall Warner will work with a few children at a time to bake sheets of cookies that will be available for donations to the Crop Walk. The Crop Walk raises money and awareness, working to end hunger one step at a time.

Our Got Kids group will meet on the 19th after second service. Got Kids is a potluck event for families. Children will make Halloween crafts at the October meeting.

On October 25th we will host our second Trunk or Treat event. Adults are encouraged to decorate their trunks with fun Halloween decorations (not too scary please as their will be little ones attending.) Each car should plan to provide a treat (candy or trinket) for our Trick-or-Treaters to collect.

Chris Hockman and I will lead a course called The Shared Pulpit: A sermon seminar for lay people. Do you have a sermon you would like to write but don’t know how to begin? Using a series of small group meetings, this program aims to deepen connection and trust among participants. It contains advice, tools, and a process designed to equip participants to be even more skilled leaders. Along the way participants will discover their authentic voice by writing a sermon to deliver to the congregation. The course consists of eight sessions that will be spread out from October to January. We will begin on October 26th from 2pm-5pm.

See you in the RE!
