The CookOUT for Marriage Equality, held Saturday June 22nd at the Fellowship, helped raise $64.30 for Virginia Equality, a leading LGBT support group in Virginia. The goal of the event was to raise awareness on behalf of Virginia Equality and to support the right to marry for all couples regardless of their sexual orientation. The event was organized by the Social Justice Committee lead by Mason Mosley and the Welcoming Congregation with special thanks to John Templeton.

UUFP members and their guests showed their support for this worthy cause by gathering for a good, old fashioned cookout that included great food (and plenty of it!), Frisbee and corn hole, and lots of socializing.

“The effort by the Welcoming Congregation and Social Justice Committees was a good time with good attendance giving people the opportunity to meet each other. Patricia and I will celebrate 40 years of marriage this year and believe that adult couples who are committed to each other should be able to enjoy the social acceptance and legal advantages as we have enjoyed. To enshrine discrimination in our state’s Constitution is abhorrent. Attitudes are changing rapidly in a positive way and our gathering in front of the Standing on the Side of Love banner summed up the day,” said Mason Mosley.

Thanks to everyone who attended for making this event such a success and for showing your support!!
